Total Health Associates Gets to the Core of Women’s Health:
Introducing Women’s Health Physical Therapy Services
Unique therapy designed to address needs of pelvic and core stability issues felt by women of all ages: from teens and post-partum to menopausal and elderly
WALDWICK, N.J. , November 27, 2017 — Total Health Associates is raising awareness of the effectiveness of Physical Therapy to treat core stability, pelvic floor weakness and other dysfunctions felt by women of varying ages. From painful intercourse, exercise-induced urinary incontinence, and overactive bladder to diastasis recti, back pain and prolapsed organs, one in three women is suffering from some form of pelvic floor and core dysfunction. Yet many of them aren’t aware that non-surgical treatments exist. Total Health Associates wants to remind people that there is no need to “just live” with these issues. IT IS COMMON, BUT NOT NORMAL. And specialized Physical Therapy exists to address these issues non-surgically.
Total Health Associates’ highly regarded Women’s Physical Therapy practice is led by Jennifer Collard, Physical Therapist, a leader in the space who has over 20 years of experience in physical therapy and extensive experience in the treatment of Pre-Natal, Postpartum and Pelvic Floor conditions for women.
“For years, women were expected to just live with these problems that interfere with their daily life and many times their self-esteem,” commented Collard. “Today, women and doctors realize that the pelvic floor muscles need rehab just like any other area of the body that is in pain or not functioning properly.”
The pelvic floor is a series of muscles susceptible to strain just as the back or rotator cuff might. And these pelvic floor muscles are important — they support the bowel, bladder and reproductive organs, which is why when someone has a strain of a pelvic floor muscle, it needs to be addressed, or else it can lead to years or a lifetime of dysfunctions. A strong and well-coordinated pelvic floor helps just about everything work better.
And getting the word out about this form of treatment is critical as well.
“Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy has been a standard of care in Europe for many years but has only recently become more acknowledged in the US,” said Collard.
Several types of treatments may be used during pelvic floor physical therapy, and form of treatment will vary on a case-by-case basis. These may include exercises, posture and body mechanics training, breathing techniques, soft and deep tissue mobilization, massage, biofeedback and most importantly, lifestyle recommendations. Treatments last about one hour and are always private and handled by Jennifer Collard, PT, in a comfortable MediSpa-like wing within the Total Health Associates office.
